Getting started
Set up the chart of accounts, opening balances and fiscal periods, then post your first documents.
Create the workspace, fix the base currency and fiscal year, and build the chart of accounts. Resist adding detail you will not report on; you can always add an account later, and removing one after it has entries is a different job entirely.
Post opening balances as a single opening entry dated the day before your first live period, then prove the trial balance. Do not post live documents until it foots and suspense is zero.
Raise real invoices and record real bills. Reconcile the bank at the end of the month. The first close is the one that tells you whether the structure was right, which is why it is worth doing on a short period.
What debit and credit actually mean, and how a business event becomes a journal entry.
